Little Flower. A nickname for Fiorello LaGuardia (1882– 1947), who served as mayor of New York City from 1933 to 1945. Later, after LaGuardia headed the American War Relief Administration in Korea, many Koreans named their newborns Lee Mi Wah, a literal translation of “Little Flower,” in his honor. New York’s LaGuardia Airport is also named after the colorful mayor, who regularly read the Sunday comic strips, or “fun- nies,” to New York kids on the city radio station. |
