词汇 | cesspool |
词源 | cesspool. Cesspool, a covered hole for sewage, or any filthy, disgusting place, may come from the Italian cesso, privy, which is from the Latin secessus. A more likely candidate is the French souspirail, a vent or breathing hole. Cesspool has many figura- tive uses, as in “He has a mind like a cesspool,” or “The man is a deep cesspool of ego.” |
