词源	peekaboo wave. Movie star Veronica Lake’s famous “peeka- boo wave,” her hair partially covering one side of her face, was possibly the best-known hairstyle of the early 1940s. However, the peekaboo caused trouble when America went to war and women in large numbers began working in defense plants. Se- rious injuries became common because women often caught their long hair in the machines they were operating. The U.S. government asked Paramount to help by changing Lake’s hair- style, which the studio was glad to do for the war effort. It hasn’t been popular since.
