词汇 regicide
词源
regicide. A regicide can be either the killing of a king or the person who kills a king. In the latter case it especially means one of the judges who condemned Charles I of England to death in 1649. After the Restoration, 41 of these regicides were executed. Their leader, Oliver Cromwell, and three others were dug up from their graves, tried for treason, dismembered, dis- played publicly, and buried under the gallows at Tyburn. Regi- cide derives from the Latin rex, king, and was coined in the 16th century based on homicide. See cromwell.
