词汇 | the granite state |
词源 | The Granite State. A nickname for New Hampshire. The state’s granite industry, storytellers say, was established as a re- sult of locals drilling for salt. In 1827 citizens drilled hole after hole searching for the precious condiment, only to give it up as a bad job upon striking layer after layer of granite. Soon after, they decided to mine the granite. |
