词汇 | dribs and drabs |
词源 | dribs and drabs. Small, irregular amounts, as in “He was paid in dribs and drabs.” The expression isn’t recorded earlier than 1942, but it clearly derives from drib, a back formation from dribble that is first recorded in 1862 and means “a drop, a small amount.” |
