词汇 caesar-s mushroom
词源
Caesar’s mushroom. Amanita caesaria or Caesar’s mush- room, honoring Julius Caesar, happens to be one species of the deadly Amanita genus that is edible, but more than a few “ex- perts” have been poisoned thinking that they had distinguished this delicacy from its deadly relatives. Every summer brings scores of deaths from mushroom poisoning. Hippocrates re- ferred to cases of mushroom poisoning in his day, and Horace warned the ancients to beware of all fungi, no matter how ap- petizing the appearance. One of the first recorded cases of mushroom poisoning occurred in the family of the Greek poet Euripides, who lost his wife, two sons and a daughter when they partook of a deadly Amanita species. Pope Clement VII, the Emperor Jovian, Emperor Charles VI, Czar Alexander I, the wife of Czar Alexis, and the Emperor Claudius (his niece and wife Agrippina poisoned his boleti) are among historical figures who lost their lives in the same way. Many species of Amanita are lethal even when eaten in minuscule amounts, and Amanita verna, the destroying angel, is easily confused with Amanita caesaria and the several other edible species. See mushroom.
