词汇 | busman-s holiday |
词源 | busman’s holiday. An old story has a London bus driver spending his days off riding the bus he regularly drives, his pe- culiarity resulting in the expression busman’s holiday, for “spending one’s spare time doing what one regularly does for a living.” But the story cannot be authenticated and the phrase, which is first recorded in 1921 but is probably 10 years or so older, must still be marked “origin unknown.” |
