blushing thigh of the aroused nymph. The French gave this sensuous, poetic name (la cuisse de nymphe ému) to a double pink alba rose developed in France in 1797. According to rosa- rian Stephen Scanniello (see yellow rose of texas), the name was too daring for English gardeners who imported the lovely fragrant rose, so they bowdlerized it to “Great Maiden’s Blush.” |
