词汇 | bob acres |
词源 | Bob Acres. A Bob Acres comes from a character in British playwright Richard Brinsley Sheridan’s comedy The Rivals (1775), in which Acres refuses to duel a rival, “wanting to live to fight another day.” This is not only the brilliant Sheridan’s first play, but it is one of his best. It should be a consolation to many that he was regarded as a dunce at school. |
