good-time Charlie; good-time girl. Good-time Charlie re- fers to an affable, sociable, convivial man, the term perhaps coined by that great American word inventor T. A. Dorgan (see hot dog), who first used it in 1927, probably before anyone else. Not long after this, in 1928, the term good-time girl is first recorded. It usually describes a convivial young woman who is looking to have a good time, to play, anything for a laugh, much the same as a good-time Charlie. |
