词源	Esso; Exxon. The Esso Oil Co. coined its name from the first letters (SO) of the Standard Oil Co., the trust formed by John D. Rockefeller in 1888. The name Exxon was born when the courts in 1973 ordered Standard Oil to use a name other than Esso in several states. Employing computer technology, the company chose Exxon from out of 10,000 other choices, essen- tially because it was easily recognized and remembered. Today Exxon Mobil is the world’s largest oil company.
