词源 | slush fund. Slush fund originally referred to the surplus fat or grease from fried salt pork, a standard food on 19th-century ships. This slush was usually sold in port, the money raised from it put into a general fund that was used to purchase luxu- ries for the crew. By 1866 the nautical term had been applied to a contingency fund set aside from an operating budget by Con- gress, and in later years it took on its current meaning of a se- cret fund used for bribes or other corrupt practices. |
