stalker. Stalk, according to Weekley, derives from Anglo Sax- on stealcian, “to walk stealthily,” but the word has only recently taken on the meaning of following a person (often prominent, such as a movie star) and harassing or persecuting her or him. The stalker is always an obsessed person and can be violent. The word isn’t recorded before the late 1980s, but the practice is an old one. |
