词汇 | wall-eyed |
词源 | wall-eyed. A wall-eyed person has an eye or eyes with unu- sually large white areas, making for defective sight. Shake- speare uses the old term, which dates back to the 14th century and is a corruption of the Icelandic vald eysthr, “having a beam in the eye,” and has nothing to do with walls, though no one really knows what the “beam” in the Icelandic word means. |
