bad ball hitter. A term of recent vintage, a bad ball hitter de- scribes someone who makes bad judgments or evaluations. The Americanism refers to a batter in baseball who often swings at pitches that are not strikes and usually misses. There is no similar term in cricket or tennis. It should be noted that many batters have hit so-called bad-ball pitches for home runs, in- cluding career home run record-holder Hank Aaron, who frequently did so. |
