| 词源 | Digger Indian. A small Paiute tribe near St. George, Utah, was apparently the first Indian tribe to be called Diggers, be- cause they practiced agriculture instead of hunting for food. The name is said to be an English translation of their Indian name. Later, Diggers was applied to all agricultural tribes and eventually the name became a derogatory one for any Indian. |
