词源 | short-list. To be put on a list of people most likely to be cho- sen for something, a list that has been winnowed from a longer one. For example, several novels are short-listed each year for Britain’s prestigious Booker Prize and from this short list a winner is selected. The expression is not a new one, dating back about 75 years. |
