词源 | wild rice. The seed of an aquatic grass rather than a true rice, wild rice was grown and eaten by American Indians. The words were first recorded in 1778. Wild rice was earlier called water oats and water rice and has also been known as Indian rice and Meneninee, after a Chippewa subtribe that grew it. See alsocarolina rice; piedmont rice. |
