词汇 | sarcasm |
词源 | sarcasm. Thomas Carlyle noted in Sartor Resartus: The Life and Opinions of Herr Teufelsdrockh (1833–34) that he saw sar- casm to generally be “the language of the devil.” The word came to us in the late 16th century from Greek sarkázein, “to rent or tear flesh, to sneer,” the Greeks equating biting a per- son with speaking harshly, bitterly, or derisively. See sardonic, cynic. |
