词汇 | sailor king |
词源 | Sailor King; Clarence; Silly Billy. Because he served as a youth in the British navy, entering in 1779 as a midshipman when 15 and made lord high admiral 48 years later, William IV of England became known as the Sailor King. William had the Clarence, a closed four-wheel carriage, named after him when he was the duke of Clarence. Sad to say he was also known as Silly Billy during his reign (1830–37) because he often didn’t take his duties seriously. |
