krummkake. Relatively few Scandinavian words have directly entered American English. An example is krummkake, a large, light, and very thin cookie made in an appliance similar to a waffle iron. The hot thin cookie is rolled around a cone-shaped tube until it hardens and is then filled with whipped cream. Krummkakes are known nationally today due to their inclu- sion in many cookbooks. This name has nothing to do with crumbs, deriving from the Norwegian krumkake, meaning the same. |
