词汇 | crony |
词源 | crony. Crony began its life as college slang for a long-time “chum.” That college wits at Cambridge coined it from the Greek chronios, “long-standing,” is evidenced by its spelling in the first recorded use of the term, which we find in Samuel Pepys’s Diary in 1665: “Jack Coles, my old schoolfellow . . . who was a great chrony of mine.” |
