bide (v.)

中古英语 biden，源自古英语 bidan，意为“停留，继续，生活，保持”，也意为“信任，依赖”，源自原始日耳曼语 *bidan，意为“等待”（源头还包括古诺尔斯语 biða，古撒克逊语 bidan，古弗里西亚语 bidia，中古荷兰语 biden，古高地德语 bitan，哥特语 beidan），其起源不确定。根据沃特金斯的说法，可能源自原始印欧语根 *bheidh-，意为“信任，信赖，说服”（通过“信任地等待”的概念）。
