| 词源 | jaegers. Though jaegers can be any of several rapacious sea- birds, in England they are also woolen underwear. The under- wear is named for Dr. Gustav Jaeger, whose Dr. Jaeger’s Sanitary Woolen System Co. Ltd. manufactured and marketed the vari- ous undergarments he designed, beginning about 1890. Ameri- cans are familiar with the term through The Bishop’s Jaegers (1932), a novel by Thorne Smith, creator of the inhibited banker Cosmo Topper, and his ectoplasmic friends. |
