词汇 | pommel |
词源 | pommel. This saddle knob takes its name from the apple, specifically from the Latin pomum, apple, because of its similar shape. Pommel, in turn, gives us pummel, which originally meant to hit someone with a knob-shaped weapon, to pommel or pummel him. Today, of course, pummel means to hit some- one with anything. |
