词汇 | train |
词源 | train. In the mid-19th century, people first gave the name train to railway carriages attached to locomotives, obviously because what was most impressive about the locomotive was the fact that it could pull a long train of carriages behind it. Train, which comes from the Latin trahir, “to drag,” had previ- ously been used for anything that trailed behind, but now it took on an entirely new meaning. |
