Tootsie Roll; Chunky. The still popular Tootsie Roll was in- vented by American candy maker Leo Hirschfield in 1896. He named the chewy chocolate for his daughter Clara, whose nickname was Tootsie. Another similar named candy is the square hunk of chocolate, cashews, brazil nuts, and raisins called the Chunky. Candy maker Philip Silverstein invented the confection and named it after his daughter, nicknamed Chunky. |
