词汇 | banzai |
词源 | banzai. Before World War II, when the Japanese Navy and those of the Western powers were on good terms, banzai par- ties, or shore parties, were held where seamen from Japan and other nations mingled. The expression derives from the general Japanese felicitation, banzai, which means “May you live forev- er.” During World War II, the once pleasant banzai was shouted by Japanese soldiers making bayonet charges. |
