词源	IOU. The term IOU, for a signed document acknowledging a debt, is an old expression dating back to at least the early 17th century. In 1618 a writer described “fellows” who: “play tricks with their Creditors, who in stead of payments, write I O U, and so scoffe many an honest man out of his goods.” IOU, of course, stands for “I Owe You.”
