A game of Mexican origin played by U.S. cowboys that consisted of burying a live chicken in soft ground up to its neck, the players riding by at a gallop and attempting to pick the chicken out of the ground, usually breaking its neck in the process. The game, also called pulling the chicken, fortu- nately isn’t played much anymore, if at all.
