词汇 | three-martini lunch |
词源 | three-martini lunch. A business lunch with martinis or oth- er potables that is used as a tax write-off. Who invented the term is unknown, but pundit William Safire, in his Safire’s Politi- cal Dictionary (1978), says South Dakota senator George McGovern popularized the expression when he ran for presi- dent in 1972, attacking the three-martini (or “martoonie”) lunch as a common example of unnecessary business expense footed by the taxpayer. See martini. |
