Custom-made cowboy boots worn by many celebrities, including Gene Autry, Slim Pickens, Arnold Palmer, and Harry Belafonte, costing up to $3,000 and fashioned of leather and exotic skins like ostrich. The boots were made in Austin, Texas by Charlie Dunn, whose father, grandfather, and great-grandfather before him were Texas bootmakers. Mr. Dunn, who died in 1993 at 95, is also remembered by the popu- lar country-western song “Charlie Dunn,” first recorded in the 1970s. |
