| 词源 | tennis. Tennis supposedly takes its name from the tinnisi cloth (made in Egypt) that was used to cover the balls in an ear- ly form of the game. As for lawn tennis, Weekley tells us that it was also called grass-court tennis and was invented in Wales in 1873 by British army Major Walter C. Winfield. However, an- other British officer, Major Hickey writes in his memoirs: “The game we played was an invention of our own and called field-tennis.” |
