词汇 buskin
词源
buskin; sock; put on the buskin. Buskin for the high thick- soled boot (cothurmus), worn by actors to make them appear taller in ancient Greek tragedy, has been part of many languages since the 16th century, but its origin has never been established, and no one has been able to trace it back beyond the Middle Dutch broseken. Comic Greek actors wore a low shoe called the sock. Thus, sock is used allusively to denote comedy, and to put on the buskins means to write tragedy.
