The winners are English physicist William Henry Bragg (1862–1942) and his son, physicist William Lawrence Bragg (1890–1971), who are responsible for Bragg’s law, which is “the fundamental law of X-ray crystallography.” The Bragg angle, “the small angle between an incident X-ray beam and planes of a crystal,” also honors them. The Bragg loop, an an- tisubmarine device used in World War I, was invented by the Braggs after they won the Nobel in 1915.
