Seattle. Seathl, a chief of the Duwamish and Suquamish In- dians, is remembered by Seattle, Washington, which was named for him in 1853, two years after it was founded as a lumber set- tlement. Actually, he sold his name to the whites for one dollar, believing that if your name is stolen after you die, you’ll roll over in your grave and since the name no longer belonged to him he’d be able to rest in peace. |
