词汇 | swab |
词源 | swab. Some 300 years ago a swab meant a merchant seaman, probably deriving from the Dutch swabbe, “mop,” in reference to sailors swabbing or mopping the decks. Before that, as far back as 1592, sailors who cleaned the decks were called swab- bers. Swabbie, related to both these terms, came into use in the late 19th century. |
