As novelist William Martin put it in 1991: “Nervous damn stretch—two lanes runnin’ straight and flat through pine woods for thirteen miles, speed limit fifty and damn-you-straight-to- hell if you were an old man who didn’t go over forty. Somebody always itchin’ to pass. Tourists comin’ the other way. No won- der they called it Suicide Six.” |
