| 词源 | panic doors. Panic doors in today’s theaters that open out- ward from slight pressure on a bar were inspired by the loss of life in Chicago’s Iroquois Theater tragedy in 1903, America’s worst theater fire. Panic resulted when it was found that all the exit doors were locked and opened inward so that they were blocked by the people around them. No one succumbed to the flames; all of those who died were trampled to death by the stampeding crowd. It took only eight minutes for 589 people to die. |
