词源 | Schindler. Oskar Schindler’s name has come to mean some- one who risked his life to save Jews from the Nazi concentra- tion camps. Schindler (1908–74) was a German manufacturer who in 1944 employed Jews in his Cracow enamelware factory and his armaments factory in Czechoslovakia, saving the lives of over 1,200. Later, the movie Schindler’s List (1993) made him famous. His name has wide currency. For instance, the Japa- nese diplomat Chiune Sugihara, who risked his life to save more than 10,000 Jews fleeing Germany, has been called the Japanese Schindler. |
