no-account. No-good, worthless, good-for-nothing, some- times no-count in the South and other regions. Nobel Prize winner William Faulkner (1897–1962), one of America’s great- est authors, was known as Count No Count to his neighbors in Oxford, Mississippi, during his early writing days. No one thought he would amount to much, this strange, seemingly lazy, rather seedy little man dressed in greasy khakis and a tweed sports jacket that had seen better days. The rumor spread that an intellectual friend, lawyer Phil Stone, must really be writing the stories that Faulkner to which signed his own name. See faulknerian.
