词汇 | goy |
词源 | goy. Goy is a Yiddish word for a gentile, and can be complete- ly innocent or disparaging, depending on who is using it and how it is used—just as Jew can be either, depending on the cir- cumstance. Leo Rosten notes that the word itself is not deroga- tory and discusses it at length in his The Joys of Yiddish, one of the best and brightest word books of this or any other time. Goy derives from the Hebrew goy, nation, and dates back at least to the 19th century. |
