erotic. Of or concerning sexual love. The word comes from the name of Eros, the young, handsome Greek god of love, whose mother is Aphrodite and who carries a golden bow and arrows that stir up sensual passion whenever he shoots some- one with them. The Romans called Eros Cupid and his mother Venus. Not even the mighty god Zeus could survive Eros’s shafts, though some stories say his golden arrows awakened the highest virtuous love and his lead arrows inspired sex.
