词汇 | solicitor |
词源 | solicitor. In England solicitors handle the preliminaries of law cases, while barristers alone are members of the bar and can take cases to court. Barristers are composed of two classes: ju- nior counsels called barristers and a higher class of king’s (or queen’s) counsels, who wear silk gowns, as opposed to the formers’ gowns of common cloth. In times past a solicitor was “one who solicits in Courts of Equity through counsel,” while attorneys (from the French atourner, to turn over to another) belonged to other courts. |
