词源 | emperor’s new clothes. One of the few stories whose title has become a popular expression, in this case a byword for human vanity. The masterpiece is “The Emperor’s New Clothes,” a well-known fairy tale Hans Christian Andersen wrote in 1837. Andersen submitted his immortal Fairy Tales to every publish- er in Copenhagen. All of them turned him down, and he was forced to publish the book himself. |
