mirandize. To advise anyone taken into custody by the po- lice that he or she has a right to remain silent and to have legal counsel. The U.S. Supreme Court made this ruling in 1966, when plaintiff Ernesto A. Miranda brought the case to court in Miranda v. Arizona. Mirandize itself has become commonly used, as in, one detective to another: “Did you mirandize him when you picked him up?” |
