词汇 | a woman-s place is in the home |
词源 | a woman’s place is in the home. Perhaps the Greek dramatist Euripides (484–406 b.c.) foreshadowed this proverbial Victori- an saying when he wrote in a fragment of the Meleager: “A woman should be good for everything at home, but abroad good for nothing.” But a woman’s place is in the home found its way into print for the first time in the mid-19th century. When she ran for Congress in 1970, women’s rights activist Bella Ab- zug campaigned under the slogan “This woman’s place is in the House—the House of Representatives!” She won, serving three terms. |
