词汇 | zap |
词源 | zap. The exact origin of zap is unknown, but the term possibly arose during World War II, as an onomatopoetic word imitating the sound of a rifle shot hitting someone. According to the New Dictionary of American Slang (1986), the word began life as an exclamation deriving from “the sound of a ray gun in the old comic strip Buck Rogers in the Twenty-fifth Century.” Since then the word has taken on wider meanings. As slang for “to kill or strike violently,” zap probably dates back to the Vietnam War. It is also used for “to cook” when food is being prepared in a microwave oven (a common synonym of this is to nuke). |
