flack. This term has been used since the mid-1940s for “adver- tising copy,” ever since the similarity between rapid gunfire and exaggerated advertising copy or publicity writing was first no- ticed. Flack probably derives from the World War II acronym flak (from the German Flieger abwehr Kanonen, “aircraft defense gun”). A flack can also mean a public relations person today. |
